Honolulu AIDS Walk is seeking motivated, enthusiastic individuals to be a part of our production team for the 24th Annual Honolulu AIDS Walk on Sunday, April 19, 2015. As the state’s largest AIDS Walk, Honolulu AIDS Walk has a variety of unique internship opportunities that will provide outstanding professional fundraising and community organizing experience in an energetic atmosphere. We currently have 8 internship opportunities available.

Interns will be asked to take leadership roles and will be encouraged to add their own voice and talents to the event.

Qualifications and Experience: Internship candidates must possess strong writing and phone skills; they must be self-motivated, positive, and well-organized team players. Computer knowledge is required, including, but not limited to internet research, social media and Microsoft Office.

Internship Specifications: Honolulu AIDS Walk requires a minimum commitment of 10 hours a week, sometime between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. Internship schedules are variable, and each intern will work with their department supervisor to build a schedule that works with their classes or other commitments while also meeting the needs of the department. Interns will likely be asked to fulfill additional hours during the week leading up to the AIDS Walk, and Saturday and Sunday, April 18 and 19th. Honolulu AIDS Walk internships may be eligible for college credit.

Available Positions and Start Dates:

Teams Department Interns - January 26 to April 19, 2015 More than 100 local businesses, organizations and community organizations form teams for Honolulu AIDS Walk, and each year those teams attract more than 60% of all AIDS Walk participants. These two interns will help the implement their massive recruitment and fundraising effort, and will assist with the production and venue set-up on the day of the event. They will help empower Team Leaders from many industries, including fashion, arts & theatre, retail, finance, government, travel, and law. Interns will provide these Team Leaders with the necessary tools to build successful teams through phone calls, emails, assisting with workshops, and occasional off-site visits, thus honing abilities and experience in presentation skills, participant engagement, and outreach strategy. Team Interns will also work with our VIP Honolulu AIDS Walk participants who pledge to raise $1,000 or more, cultivating and energizing this important group of fundraisers. He or she will work on projects including securing product donations, managing the VIP database, and helping carry out our massive recruitment and fundraising coaching effort, which includes drafting email communication and overseeing the in-house recruitment phone bank during evening hours. This intern will also contribute to the planning of the exclusive VIP breakfast on the morning of the event. The VIP Intern must be cheerful, meticulous, and diplomatic.

Volunteer Intern - February 2 to April 16, 2015 Each year, more than 300 volunteers support Honolulu AIDS Walk. The Volunteer Intern will help recruit, organize, manage, and motivate the AIDS Walk volunteers for a variety of projects including: events, mailings, phone banking, canvassing, event set up and day-of-event activities, and other special projects. He or she will help build and maintain relationships with a diverse population of volunteers from various backgrounds. The Volunteer Intern must be friendly, articulate, and outgoing. The ideal candidate will be a people-person with afternoon and evening availability to accommodate evening volunteer activity.

Event Operations Intern - February 2 to April 16, 2015 The Event Operations Department is responsible for event logistics and community organizing. This department handles city permitting, vendors, and the master plan of operations for the event. Additionally, the department organizes the annual AIDS Walk Kick-Off Reception, held to honor some of Honolulu AIDS Walk 's most important supporters, and also hires, trains, and manages 20 AIDS Walk Outreach Representatives (Street Team) who distribute promotional materials citywide. The Event Operations Intern will assist in department responsibilities including but not limited to securing donated products and services, coordinating entertainment along the Honolulu AIDS Walk route, and planning the Kick-Off Reception. This internship is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, charismatic, and has an interest in event planning.

Promotions Department

Media and Promotions Intern - - February 2 to April 16, 2015 The Event Management Department designs and produces all material for the AIDS Walk's extensive marketing campaign, which includes print, radio, TV, internet, and transit ads, as well as all participant communications, promotions and website design. The Media and Promotions Intern will work closely with Event Management to help secure new donations of advertising space, create and track the production and dissemination of all types of event media, and help attract new and better press coverage of the event. Applicants with social media, graphic design, and photography experience preferred.

Office Management Intern - February 2 to April 29, 2015

The Office Management Department is responsible for maintaining office machines and supplies; tracking event income, expenses, and registrations; processing check requests; and ensuring that phone and email inquiries are handled in a professional and timely manner. The Office Management Intern will assist the Office Coordinator with incoming and outgoing mail, assist with miscellaneous event registration data, answer phones, respond to email inquiries, help maintain accurate data, and perform other administrative tasks as needed. The Office Management Intern must have a keen attention to detail, be personable, and have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
