The Santa Fe Community Farm is hiring for Farm Manager. $1,000 mo We are a non profit growing food for those in need, and almost entirely volunteer run. This will be our only paid position this year. Will begin gradually, w starting seeds in greenhouse towards end of February, progresing to full hours Mid March. Season will go till around end of November, based on weather. Job entails being on Farm 4 days per week/ 4-5 hours each day Help plan, start seeds, plant the field, supervise volunteer groups, collaborate w Volunteer Coordinator and Farm Stand activities, contact for food distribution and community Must have good people skills, knowledge of organic priniciples, experience with growing food. Job requires physical stamina to be in the fields planting, weeding, managing, crops. Some computer work with Calender and Volunteer contacts. Mission Statement

The Santa Fe Community Farm raises fruits and vegetables for those in need; improves the environment by soil amendment and vegetation restoration; offers opportunities for volunteerism and community service; and provides a venue for educational and community development programs.

Description

As a working model of small-scale urban food production, the Farm serves as an agricultural education center, applying appurtenant water rights to 12 agricultural acres in the high desert southwest, with a commitment to charitable donation of fresh fruits and vegetables to the hungry, homeless, and disabled of northern New Mexico. It offers to a wide variety of community groups of all ages and abilities opportunities to develop hands-on skills and capabilities in sustainable agriculture practices and natural resource conservation. The farm fosters a deeper understanding of the role of agriculture for food security and community. Volunteers come from a wide variety of groups including schools (elementary through graduate school), elderhostel, inter-faith groups, the shelters, private citizens, and individuals fulfilling court-ordered community service.

One of the oldest and last remaining farms in Santa Fe, the Farm is a rare community asset, established 60 years ago by native John Stephenson.
