  • Department: The Individual and Community Preparedness (ICP) department is responsible for helping make New Yorkers more resilient when disasters strike.

Assist in delivering the mission of the Red Cross by educating NYC communities to prevent and prepare for emergencies using the New York State Preparedness Corps Governor's presentation.

Key Responsabilities:

This is a dynamic and fun opportunity to represent the American Red Cross and promote Disaster Preparedness Education through public speaking.

  • Deliver the New York State Citizen Preparedness Corps (NYS CPC) presentation to diverse audiences.
  • Answer questions regarding the NYS CPC presentation and provide introductions to other Red Cross services.
  • Assist in the recruitment of new educators.
  • Facilitate the orientation and training of new educators.
  • Help plan and manage Preparedness Events.
  • On occasion, will need to travel to, or phone conference with, Chapter Headquarters/Program Manager for meetings and additional trainings.

Time Commitment:

  • Flexible. Approximately 4-5 hours per presentation (includes travel, setup and presentation). Actual presentation will take approximately 2 hours to present.
  • Volunteer should be able to commit to the required New York State training and certification process and commit to present a minimum of 1 presentation a month.

Qualifications:

  • Must have a clear speaking voice and be comfortable with public speaking
  • Should be comfortable engaging diverse audiences of varying sizes
  • Ability to use their own mode of transportation to deliver presentation.
  • Ability to lift up to 20lbs. (materials, brochures, laptop, etc.)
  • Comfortable with technology and basic audio/visual equipment.
  • Professional appearance and friendly demeanor a must
  • Strong communication (written & verbal), problem solving, active listening and customer service skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong ability to multi-task
  • English fluency a must; multi-lingual a plus

AWESOME Training We Provide:

  • Orientation to the American Red Cross
  • Disaster Services: An Overview (Online or Classroom)
  • Training povided to attain a New York State certification as a Citizen Preparedness presenter
  • Individual and Community Preparedness (ICP) Educator training
  • Co-present with experienced staff

Development Opportunities For You:

  • Be a valued member of a Red Cross program
  • Develop, and practice public speaking skills
  • Learn and develop leadership skills to advance Red Cross preparedness mission
  • Once a level of proficiency has been obtained may train and mentor other ICP Educators
  • Train toward another line of service
