ORGANIZATION: Sexual Assault Response Network of Central Ohio

SARNCO is looking for people who want to make a difference, excel at listening to the needs of others, and care about ending sexual and relationship violence in our community.


SARNCO Volunteer Advocate Opportunities:

  • Hospital Advocate: Provides face-to-face emotional support, options and information to survivors while they are receiving care in local hospital emergency departments.
  • Hospital Advocate for Survivors who are Deaf: Through collaboration with Deaf World Against Violence Everywhere (DWAVE), provides hospital advocacy to survivors who are Deaf.
  • Helpline Advocate: Answers SARNCO's 24-Hour Rape Helpline to provide comfort, support and options over the phone to those who have been sexually assaulted and their friends or family members.
  • Prevention Educators: Gives educational presentations to students and community groups on vitally-important sexual and relationship violence prevention.

SARNCO advocates also participate in community outreach and public awareness events to distribute sexual assault intervention and prevention materials.

We are recruiting volunteers and accepting applications for our next volunteer training session to be held on Saturdays and Sundays, October 4, 5, 11, 12 and 18 from 8:30a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Interviews are being held now through 9/25, and are filling up quickly, so contact SARNCO soon to get started.

Sexual Assault Intervention, Education and Prevention Services

  • 24-Hour Emergency Room Advocacy - Trained volunteer advocates provide support, crisis intervention and referral information to survivors of sexual violence 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in local hospital emergency department. In addition, SARNCO works with Deaf Women Against Violence Everywhere to provide advocacy to survivors who are Deaf in the emergency department.
  • 24-Hour Rape Helpline - Trained volunteers provide support, crisis intervention and referral information over the telephone to survivors of sexual violence, co-survivors and the community 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • Education and Prevention Program - SARNCO provides prevention education about sexual assault, acquaintance rape, dating violence and sexual harassment.
  • Community Outreach Program - SARNCO provides long term individual advocacy to survivors, coordinates awareness-raising efforts in central Ohio and maintains SARNCO's Resource Center . SARNCO has books geared toward recovery from sexual violence available at no cost to survivors and co-survivors of sexual assault through the 24-Hour Rape Helpline at (614) 267-7020.
