The mission of LA’s Promise is to graduate every student attending an LA’s Promise neighborhood school college and career ready. This neighborhood’s enrollment zone includes two large South LA high schools (Manual Arts and West Adams Prep) and one middle school (John Muir) operated by LA’s Promise in a first-of-its-kind performance contract with the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). Through a robust school turnaround model, LA’s Promise partners with these schools to transform them into community hubs that offer comprehensive support services for students and families. By doing this, LA’s Promise will prepare every child in LA’s Promise Neighborhood to be college and career-ready, healthy and successful in life. What is this internship all about? We are looking for a motivated volunteer that is willing to provide support to students and their families in the LA’s Promise Neighborhood. If you would like to volunteer a couple hours a month on Saturday mornings to engage families in a college going culture, then providing support as a Promise Parent College volunteer is the perfect opportunity for you. You will work under the supervision of the Associate Director of Parent Engagement and provide an invaluable service for families that are eager to be advocates and partners in their child’s academic success. What will you do as Promise Parent College volunteer? Work closely with Parent Engagement team at LA’s Promise to support the signature Promise Parent College program. Provide logistical support during the implementation of the Promise Parent College program Provide a welcoming and friendly environment for participating families Other duties as needed Candidate Requirements: Strong interpersonal and communication skills Positivity and perseverance Passion for improving education in Los Angeles and making a positive difference in the lives of young people and their families Logistics: Program will operate from September 2014 - April 2015 One Saturday a month with the possibility to volunteer at LA’s Promise headquarters in downtown LA (flexible schedule) You will gain valuable experience - community building, expand your network and be a part of a dynamic team committed to improving education for families in South LA How to Apply: E-mail your resume and cover letter to volunteer@laspromise.org! At LA Promise Fund, we believe that every young person deserves a fair chance to succeed, regardless of their background or circumstances. Partnering with schools, community organizations, and businesses, together we work to provide youth from marginalized communities with the skills, knowledge, and support they need to be successful in college, career, and life.

We are currently looking for volunteers that align with our beliefs and mission and that want to get involved with our programs. Together we would be able to make a huge impact on the southeast & south LA communities.

To give you an idea of our work, we currently offers these regional signature programs that address different social issues and student needs.

We believe that the programs we offer are critical in providing young people with the skills, knowledge, and support they need to achieve their full potential. We offer several volunteer opportunities if interested: mentoring, food pantry distribution, tutoring, career education and college access opportunities.
