About the San Diego River Park Foundation: Founded in 2001, we are a nonprofit, environmental organization dedicated to the restoration of the San Diego River and creation of the San Diego River Park System. More info at www.sandiegoriver.org
Purpose of Position: The Park Watch intern will assist the Program Manager in recruiting, training and supporting Park Watch volunteers for the coastal and Mission Valley reaches of the San Diego River trail. The Park Watch Program is an all volunteer program to engage the community to keep an eye out for and report on the condition of park amenities, presence trash and graffiti
Description of Duties:
- Refine training program and presentation materials
- Assist in recruiting, screening and training Park Watch Volunteers
- Conduct Park Watch field training
- Accompany Park Watch volunteers during watch sessions
- Scheduling of volunteers
- Maintain, organize and interpret collected Park Watch data
- Assist in scheduling responses to Park Watch findings
Time Commitment: 10-12 Hours per week. Mix of office and field work. Includes some weekends.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must believe in the mission and share the values of the SDRPF and have a passion for the environment
- Able to work as part of a team and show leadership qualities
- Willingness to learn new skills
- Able to read a map
- Computer skills including Office Suite and familiarity with web based tools.
- Clear and concise written and verbal communication
- Professional demeanor, positive and friendly personality
- Comfortable speaking in front of groups and conducting training sessions

The San Diego River Park Foundation is dedicated to fostering stewardship and appreciation of the region’s namesake waterway. In order to protect and enhance the San Diego River as a place for recreation, habitat, and nature discovery, we are dedicated to engaging people to be stewards of the River and working towards the vision of a 52 mile, river-long system of parks, open spaces, and community places.
Description
We organize many different volunteer stewardship activities each month. River Cleanups, native plant gardening, habitat restoration, volunteer leadership, water quality testing, outreach and education, special event committees, technical committees and more.
