About the San Diego River Park Foundation: Founded in 2001, we are a nonprofit, environmental organization dedicated to the restoration of the San Diego River and creation of the San Diego River Park System. More info at www.sandiegoriver.org
Purpose of Position: The Healthy River Field Operation Interns will assist the staff program associate in assessing, documenting and mapping presence of trash and illegal dumping along the river and within sensitive habitat areas. The candidates will also help to plan, execute and lead community volunteer events to address those issues and help restore the river back to a healthy waterway.
Description of Duties:
- Performance of field surveys, site assessments along the San Diego River and within the riparian habitat
- Data entry and database management using established protocols
- Web based mapping site management
- Volunteer leadership for river cleanup events and for River Blitz survey events to document presence of trash and invasive nonnative vegetation
- Project supervision/oversight as assigned
- Responsible for maintenance and inventory of program related tools and supplies
Time Commitment: 10-12 Hours per week. Mix of office and field work. Includes 2 Saturday mornings per month with possible additional weekend days as needed.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must believe in the mission and share the values of the SDRPF and have a passion for the environment
- Able to work as part of a team and show leadership qualities
- Willingness to learn new skills
- Good physical condition able to walk on rough terrain and through dense vegetation, lift 50 lbs
- Able to read a map
- Computer skills including Office Suite and familiarity with web based tools.
- Clear and concise written and verbal communication
- Professional demeanor, positive and friendly personality
- Comfortable speaking in front of groups (helpful but not required)

Description
We organize many different volunteer stewardship activities each month. River Cleanups, native plant gardening, habitat restoration, volunteer leadership, water quality testing, outreach and education, special event committees, technical committees and more.
