About the San Diego River Park Foundation: Founded in 2001, we are a nonprofit, environmental organization dedicated to the restoration of the San Diego River and creation of the San Diego River Park System. More info at www.sandiegoriver.org

Purpose of Position: The Education and Outreach Intern will be dedicated to engaging and educating the community to help rebuild a connection between San Diegans and the San Diego River. They will help to coordinate and implement educational activities and outreach events. The intern will also participate in the promotion of the San Diego River Park Foundation’s various events both in the office and in the field.

The Education and Outreach Intern reports to the Program Coordinator and will be dedicated to engaging the community within the San Diego River watershed, with the purpose of raising public awareness and getting people involved with the mission of the San Diego River Park Foundation. They will help to plan and implement opportunities to involve the public including sharing information about the River Park and trail system by tabling in the community and at fairs or festivals, leading tours of the River, and through special events. The Education and Outreach Intern will also interact with and support volunteers at stewardship events.

Description of Duties:

  1. Inform and engage community members of all ages within the San Diego River watershed through tabling, presentations, educational events, and personal interaction with the public.
  2. Prepare for and conduct outreach and education events.
  3. Data entry and database management using established protocols.
  4. Lead educational tours along the San Diego River for groups of 10-25

Time Commitment: 10-12 hours per week. Includes some weekends.

Qualifications:

-Must be at least 18 years of age.

-Must believe in the mission and share the values of the SDRPF and have a passion for the environment.

-Ability to represent the SDRPF in a positive light through one on one conversation and public speaking

-Share an energy and enthusiasm that will inspire people to take action. Able to work as part of a team and show leadership qualities.

- Willingness to learn new skills.

- Professional demeanor, positive and friendly personality.

- Ability to travel to locations along the San Diego River.

Description

We organize many different volunteer stewardship activities each month. River Cleanups, native plant gardening, habitat restoration, volunteer leadership, water quality testing, outreach and education, special event committees, technical committees and more.
