ORGANIZATION: Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children

  • 69 people are interested

Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children (CASA) volunteers must complete an extensive screening and training process to be certified by the court. Pre-service and in-service trainings are provided, covering a variety of topics relevant to working with families and children within the legal system. Volunteers must commit to a minimum of one year of service. Each volunteer generally handles one case (i.e., one child or sibling group) at a time. The volunteer gathers information by reviewing records, interviewing the child, parents, caregivers, service providers, and other relevant parties to determine what plans and services are in the best interest of the child. The volunteer submits a written report to the court for each court hearing detailing his/her recommendations and the supporting objective information. The volunteer monitors the case, continuing to advocate for the child's best interest, until the child is placed in a safe, permanent home.
