If you enjoy talking on the phone, and have time to make a few calls, you may be a perfect Bereavement Telephone Assurance (BTAP) Volunteer. Volunteers make phone calls to bereaved family members after a hospice patient's death. VITAS Bereavement volunteers make a real difference in the emotional and spiritual stability of our patients’ families. Trained bereavement volunteers are assigned families to call each week. Calling can be done on your own time, from your home. Calls must be made every week. It takes about 1 - 2 hours each week. VITAS Volunteer orientation is provided free of charge to help you learn the skills required to be a hospice volunteer. Additional training is provided about the stages of grief, how to communicate and encourage the bereaved, and how to recognize complicated grief. Volunteers work with the support of VITAS’ manager of volunteers, bereavement manager to provide a caring presence to a grieving individual. Time and dates are ongoing and flexible. Vitas Healthcare is looking for volunteers who are able to share their time with hospice patients living at home, assisted living, or in long term care facilities. Hospice volunteers give their time to terminally ill patients and their caregivers during a critical time. Hours are flexible, can be during the weekend. Average commitment is about 1 hour a week. Training is provided. Volunteers can offer companionship for the patient, read, play music, games, and help in other meaningful ways. Administrative volunteers promote hospice care by helping perform clerical assignments in an office setting. These assignments can include helping patient care secretary, filing, data entry, restocking supplies, making packets, plus many other tasks. Training is provided. No previous experience necessary. VITAS Volunteer orientation is provided free of charge to help you learn the skills required to be an outstanding Office Volunteer. Volunteers are needed between the hours of 8am and 5pm, Monday through Friday. Must be available for at least a two hour (or more) time period. Volunteers are needed to assist in sorting health supplies, packing into boxes, and breaking down boxes. This is not heavy lifting. Volunteers needed between the hours of 9:30 am - 1:oo pm, any 2 hour or more time period. Volunteers are needed on a Monday and Thursday. ( between hours of 9:30 am - 1:30 pm). It is important to be available for about 2 hours at a time. No experience necessary, training provided. This position is very important to the operation of our hospice office. Community service hours can be earned.
