  • Virtual Coaches - SoulDeevas National Majorettes

    This is a virtual opportunity
It's Flexible! We'll work with your schedule

We are looking for two talented and committed individuals to serve as the first "virtual coaches" for our new NATIONAL/VIRTUAL SoulDeevas' Hip-Hop Mini-Majorette Dance Teams. You can learn more about the SoulDeevas by visiting their website at www.souldeevas.com and by following them on Instagram at - @souldeevas. Over the past season, we have had SoulDeevas leave NY or NJ and miss the sisterhood that they found while on our team. The required "shut-in" around the pandemic and our virtual teaching experiment gave us the idea of starting a fully virtual team - which currently does not exist anywhere in the country. We are looking to pilot three teams: juniors (ages 8-12), seniors (ages 13-18) and collegiate (ages 19-older). We will start with the senior team, as that is where most of the interest is. The show "Bring-It" (on the LifeTime Channel) has ignited a firestorm of interest among young ladies across the country which hasn't seemed to die down, even though the show has been on hiatus for almost a year. Many girls want to join a hip-hop majorette team (particularly in the Northeast), but find that there are no teams close to where they live OR they audition and don't make the team and are left to gaze longingly at the young girls on the show and at existing teams' Instagram pages, hoping for their chance to dance. The coaches would be responsible for developing original routines that incorporate hip-hop (primarily) dance and infuse other genres of dance. Hip-hop majorette style dance is desired but NOT required. A really talented and experienced dancer can pick up on that style in no time. Coaches will "teach" the choreography using BAND (a free app) and ZOOM (a free app). You will determine the days/times/durations of practices for your team (to total three hours per week) - for instance, you will meet your team every Saturday from 1:00pm to 2:00pm from August, 2020 until June 2021. You can also do chats with them and do other team building activities to bond them as a unit. They would also be blended in with our NYC/NJ Teams to get to know them. This is fairly new for us, but we believe that it is a great way to combat the loneliness and isolation that the pandemic is causing. Annually, you will work towards bringing the girls to NYC at the end of the season to perform/compete and meet their NY and NJ sisters. Your personal travel expense to NYC would be subsidized by the organization. You do not have to live in New York City or New Jersey to be a virtual coach with the SoulDeevas - but if you are in these states, you are always welcomed to come and hang out with our teams when they resume practice again. If you are interested, please email souldeevas@gmail.com and let tell us a little bit about your dance experience and which team you would like to lead. Thanks so much for your interest. We'll get through this together, but in the meantime - keep dancing!!!

  • Grant Writing and/or Fundraising Assistance

    This is a virtual opportunity
It's Flexible! We'll work with your schedule

Bicycle Angels is a non-profit charity that loans road bicycles for free to people that want to participate and fund raise for an eligible charity cycling or triathlon event, but don’t have a suitable bike to use, and can’t afford one. Our bicycles are loaned to motivated and committed individuals who are passionate about charity fundraising but are not financially capable of owning a bike suitable for endurance cycling. We help remove a major barrier to charity fundraising, plus engage new people into cycling. About half of our loan recipients later go on to buy their own bike. Since our inception in late 2009, we have loaned bicycles to over 350 participants who have collectively raised over $2.4 Million for important causes. Charities that have benefited to date include the Leukemia Lymphoma Society (via Team in Training), Multiple Sclerosis Society, National Diabetes Society, AIDS Lifecycle, Arthritis Foundation, Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation, and more. However in order to really become the charity we should be, we need serious help fundraising. We are currently 100% volunteer and need expert, experienced help seeking and applying for grants and fundraising. We currently have a Fundraising Director position open on our Board but just plain need help. Our long term goal is to have paid fundraising staff as we start to see some more significant money come in. If you have experience in grant writing and/or fundraising and would like to help out an awesome, growing charity, please check out our web site, and contact me for further discussion.

  • VOLUNTEER: Sewing "Warm Fuzzies" for campers

    with Camp Korey
    This is a virtual opportunity
It's Flexible! We'll work with your schedule

Warm Fuzzies are a Camp Korey tradition. At the beginning of each residential summer camp session, campers decorate 'Warm Fuzzy Bags’ that hang in the dining hall all week long. Throughout the week, campers and counselors write Warm Fuzzy notes of positivity and appreciation to one another that they then get to take home at the end of the week. Our campers frequently save these Warm Fuzzies for years. As one camper said: "I have all my Warm Fuzzies in a drawer. When you are having a really difficult day, you can pull one out and it’s just made one hundred times better." The Warm Fuzzy Project was created to continue this sense of community and support for our campers in a more tangible way. Each camper will receive a warm fuzzy creature to take home with them after they complete a week of residential summer camp. These Warm Fuzzies will serve as a reminder of the support and friendships made at camp whenever they need a boost in spirits. If you enjoy sewing and would like to make the experience of Camp Korey even more magical, please consider creating Warm Fuzzies for our extraordinary campers.
