  • Homelessness prevention simulation, CrowdDoing

    This is a virtual opportunity
It's Flexible! We'll work with your schedule

CrowdDoing is recruiting volunteers to help us simulate homelessness prevention. Homelessness Prevention Simulation: Thesis: Home buyers today buy 100% of a home, and borrow money through a mortgage to be able to afford to do so. But this purchase masks the fact that they are buying two things at the same time- 100% of the future sale price of a home (so-called appreciation value), and 100% of the usage rights of that home while they are living there (so-called use value). If people could buy only the percentage of appreciation value that they can afford, and still secure stable access to a home, half of homelessness in dense, coastal urban regions such as the Bay Area, New York, Seattle could be prevented. Stanford University has piloted such a model for decades by allowing professors to buy 100% of the use value of their off-campus home and 50% of the appreciation value of their home. This program has allowed individual professors to have asset diversification, access to housing, and an affordable share of the growth in the appreciating market value of their home. Through this program, Stanford University has created access to housing for professors without grant dollars or housing tax credits in a difficult housing market. Stanford’s endowment has earned returns on this investment comparable to the rest of Stanford endowment investments. The extension of this kind of alternative financing-- investing in a portion of appreciation value per home-- could make possible zero-subsidy affordable housing for preventing homelessness and reducing super-commuting. In the Bay Area, jobs and housing creation are unbalanced. For the housing demand to be met, an added minimum of 275,000 homes are needed, available at price levels that neither impoverish nor displace working families. Until those homes are built, what solution might bring families with moderate incomes access to existing housing stock? The solution is to provide one part of our housing need solution by using a financial investment model based on the future appreciation of homes. It's Flexible! We'll work with your schedule

We seek volunteers that are prepared to provide the necessary expertise for our life-saving work for the duration of the emergency. For clarity, this means work without pay. However, there will be formal acknowledgements and expressions of gratitude in a variety of formats. In the current situation, we are expanding our team of volunteers. To be successful in our mission we will need experts to set up supply chains, manage production facilities and do other jobs that require a fair amount of experience. We are looking for help with finding and targeting such people and to raise awareness about our project in general. To get things started, somebody with a deep and broad understanding of people with diverse backgrounds, a strong network and some basic computer skills would be ideal. It might be that you don’t feel you have the time or the necessary skills to be of much help but would like to contribute to this endeavour. But in an emergency situation like this, you might be able to bridge the gap until somebody more suitable comes along, so do not hesitate to speak to us. Even if you were just to set up social media accounts and identify more ways to target volunteers, you could have an impact on the amount and quality of our volunteers, which would consequentially result in saved lives.

  • Graphic Artists needed to help with Election Integrity Effort

    This is a virtual opportunity
    Sun, September 20, 2020 - Mon, November 9, 2020

Many Americans are concerned about the integrity of our upcoming election. In addition to the important preventative measures being taken by other groups, this small team will collaborate with experts and other election security groups to prepare for a possible post-election audit. Currently, we are working on ways to communicate this simple and direct method to media and the public. We need to help people realize that it _is_ possible to audit the election results, and that anyone can understand the simple methods to do so. Our biggest volunteer need currently is for graphics and visuals to help convey the ideas. However, specific experience is not required - we can use anyone who is willing to commit some time to the effort. Questions welcome. (We are currently close communication with DemocracyCounts, Scrutineers, ProtectOurVotes and other groups and hope to work in a way that complements with their efforts)

Food Bank News is publishing a list of the Top 100 Food Banks and the programs they are running to solve hunger. We need someone to help us verify the information we have collected. The project would involve reaching out via email to the public relations representatives at approx. 100 food banks to confirm the data we have collected about the various programs they run. The volunteer would track responses and update the spreadsheet of collected data as necessary. Food banks are essential to the health and well-being of millions of people, as has become especially apparent during the pandemic. We are building a database of the Top 100 food banks and the programs they run as a way of fostering greater understanding of how the charitable food system is working to help to end hunger. By collecting and publishing this information, we hope that food banks will learn from each other about the best ways to address this pressing problem. Working from food bank websites, we have already collected data about the programs running at the top 100 food banks. In accordance with good editorial practices, we are seeking to give each food bank the opportunity to confirm the data. Once the data has been verified and updated, we will be publishing it on the Food Bank News website. We are anticipating a publication date of early November. Researchers will get byline credit for their work!

    Wed, July 29, 2020 - Tue, October 27, 2020

Marketing volunteer for CrowdDoing.world's systemic change fund. What is CrowdDoing.world's systemic change fund? CrowdDoing.world's systemic change fund addresses this challenge. How can everyone be able to economically afford to work on what they love? How can sweat equity diversification of investment allow more people to afford to work on what they love? If social enterprises and impact funds could collaborate to reduce the friction in capital access, this could help them access more of the right expertise as they need it. This approach can allow a diverse set of sweat-equity- staff to participate in early-stage social enterprises. This kind of flexibility can be made possible if a fraction of sweat-equity-staff remuneration could be secured in a portfolio of social enterprises, rather than only one.c The Systemic Change Fund connects the impact community of experts, CrowdDoing volunteers, and institutions able to provide a range of in-kind services and goods-to be able to undertake collaborative capacity-building in support of social enterprises and social innovation. More people could eventually be able to economically afford to work on what they love, if sweat equity staff could achieve economic diversification comparable to impact investors. Social enterprises are already places for inspiration, but they rarely have the capital to pay for help; their equity is a large, undiversified risk for the sweat equity investor. The Systemic Change Fund offers integral capital financing for every stage of development, for social enterprises that have truly transformational impact potential. Genesis partners with a capacity-building group of allies, to support different kinds of social innovation and social enterprise goals, through revenue-share-grounded-based in-kind lines of credit to participating social enterprises. The social enterprises with equity lines of credit for in-kind resources, can draw these down as easily as cloud services can be requested in the form of storage or computing power.
