  • Oxygen generation

    with ArdenVent
    This is a virtual opportunity
It's Flexible! We'll work with your schedule

We are a non-profit organization building an infrastructure to develop, manufacture, distribute and operate remote-controlled ventilators and oxygen concentrators that will also gather high-resolution treatment data for scientific research and treatment optimization. As we learn more about the virus, the benefits of early oxygen support become more and more evident. Unfortunately, receiving oxygen at the moment requires you to go to a hospital. Many people especially in developing countries have either no access to these, can not afford the stay, or simply don't trust the system. This leads to tragic life long organ damage or even death that could have easily avoided by supplying a little bit of oxygen as early as possible. To not make cost or location an issue any longer we are working a small and low-cost oxygen concentrator which is to be distributed with the ventilator and is designed specifically for the COVID-19 scenario. Herefore we need the help of capable engineers that can read through existing research and existing designs independently, go back to the first principles and reconsider the parameters of existing designs to find a sweet spot where effectiveness for this specific application and cost-effectiveness are maximized. Minimal Requirements 2 years of work experience as a mechanical engineer Familiarity with physical Systems modeling Experience with Systems Design Capability to work in a small team without much supervision. 10h+ per week dedicated time

  • 3-D Printing of ventilator parts

    with ArdenVent
    This is a virtual opportunity
It's Flexible! We'll work with your schedule

A fully functioning low-cost computer-controlled ventilator is a game changer. if you ever 3-D printer we need your help. We have produced a very low cost medical ventilator that is needed to combat the effects of Covid-19. The ventilator has various automated features to accommodate the needs of the patient in conjunction with remote interaction with the medical professional supervising the patient. In other words the doctor might be on the other side of the planet. Low cost is necessary as the viruses is indiscriminately attacking anyone and everyone all over the world whether they be rich or poor. A very significant number of hospitals in the third world countries typically only have one or two ventilators and have absolutely no hope of helping those affected survive. To achieve a low-cost ventilator for the third world countries we need you to volunteer yourself and your 3-D printers until we are able to produce the tooling for injection moulding. Injection moulding tooling takes a significant amount of time to make along with the fact that we will need sufficient funding to take this next step. Volunteers with 3-D printers are needed to produce the parts for a lobe air pump designed for our Ventilator (ArdenVent). As I am in Auckland for it is an Auckland would be most suitable for a start but due to the large numbers this will become global. The print envelope would need to be about 200 x 150 x 40 mm for the larger parts and 100 x 100 x 25 mm for the smaller parts. Print filament will be ABS and PLA. Those who have print capacity for more exotic materials may be needed in the future. One style of palm has two halves of the housing and two lobe gears. The pump is very similar in function to gear pump. the other is a derivative of a vane pump. It is driven by a computer-controlled stepper motor in order to deliver the right amount of the air at the right time and at the right pressure. We anticipate that we will also need various individuals to participate in some light construction and electronic assembly work. If you think that you have something to offer our group we would be delighted to be from you. We look forward to your participation. We seek volunteers for 3-D printers and their master. We will be happy to pay for the materials. https://ardenvent.com/ https://youtu.be/Mn2pzzC-25w

    This is a virtual opportunity
    Thu, October 15, 2020 - Wed, January 13, 2021

Alliance for Smiles Marketing & Communications Internship (Fall 2020) www.allianceforsmiles.org About Alliance for Smiles Alliance for Smiles is a registered 501c3 nonprofit with a mission to forever improve the lives of children and communities impacted by cleft by providing free, comprehensive treatment while building local capacity for long-term care. It's little known that children born with cleft conditions in many countries face tremendous physical, emotional, and social challenges. Approximately one in ten are killed by their own families or communities for being born with the condition, as it is often considered a curse or spiritual punishment. Those who survive have difficulty breastfeeding, are prone to other serious medical conditions, and are often shunned, bullied, abused, or abandoned. The solution is a relatively quick surgery (often around one hour) after which the children’s lives and opportunities are transformed forever. Unfortunately, most of them do not live in areas where trained surgeons are available, and if they do, the surgeries are often unaffordable. That’s where Alliance for Smiles (AfS) comes in, undertaking medical missions to offer free surgeries for children impacted by cleft lip and palate in underserved regions of the world, training the medical teams that serve them, and establishing Treatment Centers to provide long-term, sustainable care for these patients. AfS and its medical missions are powered by a lean team & board, along with almost one thousand volunteers, including both medical and non-medical volunteers. We’d love for you to join us in this mission! About the role(s) Change lives forever with Alliance for Smiles! At AfS, we are passionate about transforming the course of children’s lives, one smile at a time. We’ve provided surgeries for over 7,000 children to date, and none of that would’ve been possible without the incredible support of some amazing volunteers. Join us in this mission! We have openings for internships with impact across a few disciplines. We’ll highlight the primary role this document is focused on but also include the rest below in case you see a role that you’re more interested in or know someone you could refer to us: Marketing & Communications: Are you a powerful storyteller with words and/or visuals? Do you love helping build a brand and strategizing about the best ways to get the word out about issues that you care about? Are you skilled at utilizing social media, writing & copy-editing, and/or capturing & editing fantastic video content? If you said "yes" to even a fraction of those questions, we’d love to connect with you! Additional roles: Development & Fundraising: Asking for money is some people’s worst nightmare, while other people have an amazing knack for telling people about an important issue that matters and showing them how they can use their dollars and networks to help support a community in need. It’s a beautiful & incredibly important gift! If that sounds like you, we’d love to have your help with applying for grants, creating & launching fundraising campaigns, and hosting events (both in-person - when it’s safe - and online) to help raise the funds we need to change children’s lives forever. Website Design & Support: Are you tech savvy and love working on websites to help create a beautiful, user-friendly experience for visitors to the site? Our site, built with WordPress, serves lots of groups - volunteers, donors, people who want to learn more about cleft, and now - with COVID-19 - it will also host training videos for our partners at hospitals around the world to help them develop & hone their skills to support cleft patients. Now more than ever, we’re hosting more campaigns and information on our site and we’d love to have your help developing it! International Program Support: The world has changed and for the first time in our 16 year history, we’re not able to go on international medical missions for the time being. We have pivoted & adapted to the changing times & circumstances. The trainings we would normally be giving medical teams at our partner hospitals around the world are now being conducted online thanks to our incredible nurses, surgeons, and translators. As we continue to roll out this new program feature, we will need support in logistics coordination, curriculum development, and material management. We especially welcome the support of interns with language skills in the following: French, Spanish, Arabic, Bengali, and Burmese. Help us continue achieving our mission in new and innovative ways around the world! Because we are a small but mighty team, we all wear a lot of hats and our work changes constantly. Our interns do the same. The beauty of the AfS team and volunteers is that everyone steps up to help out and has a great time while doing it! Most of our internships are part to full time (approx. 10- 40 hours/week) depending on availability, and a minimum three month commitment is preferred. Scheduling is flexible. While internships with AfS are unpaid, it is possible to receive a small stipend to cover any relevant costs. We’ll highlight the primary role this document is focused on but also include the rest below in case you see a role that you’re more interested in or know someone you could refer to us: Website Design & Support: Are you tech savvy and love working on websites to help create a beautiful, user-friendly experience for visitors to the site? Our site, built with WordPress, serves lots of groups - volunteers, donors, people who want to learn more about cleft, and now - with COVID-19 - it will also host training videos for our partners at hospitals around the world to help them develop & hone their skills to support cleft patients. Now more than ever, we’re hosting more campaigns and information on our site and we’d love to have your help developing it! Additional roles: Marketing & Communications: Are you a powerful storyteller with words and/or visuals? Do you love helping build a brand and strategizing about the best ways to get the word out about issues that you care about? Are you skilled at utilizing social media, writing & copy-editing, and/or capturing & editing fantastic video content? If you said "yes" to even a fraction of those questions, we’d love to connect with you! Development & Fundraising: Asking for money is some people’s worst nightmare, while other people have an amazing knack for telling people about an important issue that matters and showing them how they can use their dollars and networks to help support a community in need. It’s a beautiful & incredibly important gift! If that sounds like you, we’d love to have your help with applying for grants, creating & launching fundraising campaigns, and hosting events (both in-person - when it’s safe - and online) to help raise the funds we need to change children’s lives forever. Normally, interns are provided a desk, computer, etc at our office in the Dogpatch neighborhood of San Francisco, however, the AfS team is currently working remotely due to the COVID-19 pandemic. About you Internship candidates should: Be a minimum of 18 years of age Be fluent in English; additional languages are a huge bonus, as we partner with communities around the world Be able to commit to a minimum of 10 hours per week for 3 months Have skills and experience relevant to the role Have cross-cultural awareness and interests Be empathetic, socially aware, and values driven Be open-minded, flexible, and ready to have fun with a small, friendly, and high impact team About the benefits An internship with AfS will give you hands-on learning with a lean, resourceful team of dedicated, friendly staff, who are committed to changing and saving children’s lives who have been impacted by cleft conditions. While this role is an unpaid internship, there are still some great benefits for our volunteers: You will: Gain experience working with an established and meaningful international 501c3 nonprofit Work with a manager/mentor to undertake an/or design projects that help you hone the personal and professional skills you want to develop to continue your career development Be part of a large community of people committed to an inspiring mission, and join the many social events and networks that come with it References for successful candidates; we love to help our interns create & showcase projects that will help them further their career goals and learn the skills they need to succeed Learn more at www.allianceforsmiles.org . If interested, please send your resume and cover letter to info@allianceforsmiles.org . Feel free to call (415) 647-4881 with any questions and thank you for considering a role with us! A diverse and inclusive workplace where we learn from each other is an integral part of AfS culture. We actively welcome people of different backgrounds, experiences, abilities and perspectives. Though the Festival may look very different than in the past, we still need the help of our dedicated volunteers. Year after year, PFF volunteers are a tireless and invaluable source of support and friendship to the Festival. Digital Street Team We can’t hit the streets with PFF materials, but you can still help get the word out. This year, we are debuting the PFF29 Digital Street Team. To participate and rack up benefits, everything you need is at your fingertips. Volunteers are asked to post about the Festival on their personal social media accounts. In exchange, we’re happy to provide voucher codes for volunteers to watch PFF films for free. • International Programs Internship (Fall 2020)

    This is a virtual opportunity
    Thu, October 15, 2020 - Wed, January 13, 2021

Alliance for Smiles International Programs Internship (Fall 2020) www.allianceforsmiles.org About Alliance for Smiles Alliance for Smiles is a registered 501c3 nonprofit with a mission to forever improve the lives of children and communities impacted by cleft by providing free, comprehensive treatment while building local capacity for long-term care. We’ll highlight the primary role this document is focused on but also include the rest below in case you see a role that you’re more interested in or know someone you could refer to us: International Program Support: The world has changed and for the first time in our 16 year history, we’re not able to go on international medical missions for the time being.
