  • Missions Research Analyst

    This is a virtual opportunity
It's Flexible! We'll work with your schedule

Task Description: The majority of this role will be in support of our weekly Mission's Monday Highlight & Prayer Request post, right now on just Facebook. We see this weekly post as an important piece to fulfilling our mission of providing support and encouragement to those on the front-lines of poverty alleviation. The specific tasks include researching Christian ministries, both locally and globally, that are serving the poor in some way; sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ in Word and Deed. We use the word 'poor' loosely. It could mean not only poor financially, but also 'poor’ educationally, relationally, mentally, physically, spiritually, etc. This research will be for the purpose of finding possible candidate ministries, outreaches, etc. for our weekly mission's highlight post. Check out our Seed2Life International Facebook page for examples of our weekly posts. This is a new position for us, so most likely, it will adjust and change over time, as needed. We also value your input on how we can make our Mission's Monday Highlight & Prayer Request post better. What you would do: Email Social Media Director 1-2 ministries per week with the following information for each: - Name of Ministry - Name of leader(s) to contact - Leaders' contact information - Ministry's mission and vision statements - Detailed demographic of who they primarily serve (ie. children, families, the incarcerated, elderly, etc.) and in what ways are these people 'poor’? - Any specific immediate requests, needs, prayer needs, etc. you see on their website and/or Facebook page - Are there pictures you see on their website and/or Facebook page that give a visual to the ministry they do? - Any other pertinent information you feel would help

  • Volunteer to listen to people

    with LISTEN ONE
    This is a virtual opportunity
It's Flexible! We'll work with your schedule

**It is important to read and understand all these expectations before you apply to become a Listener.** Listen. One exists because of three reasons; we believe we are made to love everyone, we believe in the Holy Spirit to guide us and we believe that Jesus can impact anyone’s life anywhere at anytime. The challenge for us is to love our neighbors - all our neighbors! It is difficult to love our neighbors who aren’t easy and convenient to love when our normal routines of life create comfort zones that keep us from meeting others. We believe that to start actively loving our neighbors starts with getting to know who they are. People are seeking to feel known and that takes time. Most of the time it is not just a few chat messages sent back and forth. It’s following up the next day to check in with them to see how they are doing. It’s about building relationships and that takes time to build trust and friendship. Think of this as a pen pal service using email, text messages and phone calls. The time commitment is about 2-5 hours per week. Volunteer Listeners all work from home and set their own schedule. To support our volunteer Listeners, we have weekly group phone calls with all Listeners to learn from other Listeners and ask questions of the group. Our guidelines for our Volunteer Listeners Pray that the Holy Spirit guides you and helps you to be mentally present and that your conversations will be peaceful, non-judgmental and encouraging. Always set the time expectation with the Sharer. Make sure they know how much time you have to chat and when you will be able to chat next. Show the Sharer respect - do not multitask while chatting. Be comfortable and have fun but don’t jump into their talk with your opinions or your experiences. Don’t be distracted by your surroundings. Show this person that they are the most important person in your life at this moment. No preaching, no condemning, no judging, no advice. Acknowledge what the Sharer says. Use your imagination to put yourself in their shoes - not with your history but with theirs. Don’t think about how you would do things better or how you are going to offer a solution. Be curious! Ask specific clarifying questions around - Who? What? When? Where? You can also clarify what they said by simply asking "Are you saying that...? Restate what you hear. Get to know more about them: "Were you afraid?" "How did this change things for you?" "How did you deal with that?" If you are excited about joining our listening team, please take the time now to fill out our application form. https://listen.one/listener-signup/ This is the first step. Listen. One is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Please visit our website to learn more about us. https://listen.one

It's Flexible! We'll work with your schedule

We have an opportunity for you to volunteer and become a Sponsor for our Elite Students so they can make lasting changes in their lives! Of course, survival needs are vital to the poor, but lasting change always involve a healthy self-esteem, confidence and personal worth. And this is where you are needed: 1. Your sponsorship will strengthen the ability of the poor & needy to remain self-sufficient in managing their households, budgets and future plans. 2. Your sponsorship provides tuition and cover expenses to enroll in The Just God Academy where they receive inspiration and education in God-inspired life skills, healing from the past, and empowerment in solving their problems. 3. This is not a theology course, adults and teens are taught how to follow their values, truth and integrity; how to be strong during oppositions and conflicts. 4. The poor and needy learn that they are "Powerful," gain knowledge, wisdom, courage and improve intuitive abilities in how to live in peace, love and joy every day. Volunteer Today to Make a Commitment to support one or more Elite Students: Each Elite Student is $25 a month or $300 for the year. On behalf of the Poor & Needy, THANK YOU! LSSNCA ensures that each of our refugee families are provided a home furnished and supplied with all essentials upon arrival in the U.S. The same applies to Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) holders arriving from Afghanistan. Upon arrival, refugee families are enrolled in the Reception and Placement (R&P) program of the U.S. State Department. Through this program, families are granted $1,175 per individual for the material means of the family (rent, furnishings, groceries, clothing, etc.). This grant is meant to last an individual for the R&P period of 90 days from arrival - after which, all eligible adults should be employed and the family successfully financially self-sufficient. Of course, we understand that this amount is often not enough to live on for three months. Therefore, LSSNCA relies heavily on the support of groups and faith communities , like yourselves, for co-sponsorship of our families (Good Neighbor Partners) and donations. https://bit.ly/RemoteRefugeeSupport Please note: We are located in the Washington, DC Metro area.
