  • 3-D Printing of ventilator parts

    with ArdenVent
    This is a virtual opportunity
It's Flexible! We'll work with your schedule

A fully functioning low-cost computer-controlled ventilator is a game changer. if you ever 3-D printer we need your help. We have produced a very low cost medical ventilator that is needed to combat the effects of Covid-19. The ventilator has various automated features to accommodate the needs of the patient in conjunction with remote interaction with the medical professional supervising the patient. In other words the doctor might be on the other side of the planet. Low cost is necessary as the viruses is indiscriminately attacking anyone and everyone all over the world whether they be rich or poor. A very significant number of hospitals in the third world countries typically only have one or two ventilators and have absolutely no hope of helping those affected survive. To achieve a low-cost ventilator for the third world countries we need you to volunteer yourself and your 3-D printers until we are able to produce the tooling for injection moulding. Injection moulding tooling takes a significant amount of time to make along with the fact that we will need sufficient funding to take this next step. Volunteers with 3-D printers are needed to produce the parts for a lobe air pump designed for our Ventilator (ArdenVent). As I am in Auckland for it is an Auckland would be most suitable for a start but due to the large numbers this will become global. The print envelope would need to be about 200 x 150 x 40 mm for the larger parts and 100 x 100 x 25 mm for the smaller parts. Print filament will be ABS and PLA. Those who have print capacity for more exotic materials may be needed in the future. One style of palm has two halves of the housing and two lobe gears. The pump is very similar in function to gear pump. the other is a derivative of a vane pump. It is driven by a computer-controlled stepper motor in order to deliver the right amount of the air at the right time and at the right pressure. We anticipate that we will also need various individuals to participate in some light construction and electronic assembly work. If you think that you have something to offer our group we would be delighted to be from you. We look forward to your participation. We seek volunteers for 3-D printers and their master. We will be happy to pay for the materials. https://ardenvent.com/ https://youtu.be/Mn2pzzC-25w

We are a non-profit organization building an infrastructure to develop, manufacture, distribute and operate remote-controlled ventilators and oxygen concentrators that will also gather high-resolution treatment data for scientific research and treatment optimization. To address the critical lack of highly qualified COVID-19 caregivers we plan to include as many automation features for the ventilator, from automatic first aid response over automated weaning trials to diagnosis and treatment recommendation. This requires a wide array of Artificial intelligence methods such as basic decision trees but also supervised and unsupervised machine learning techniques where the machine analyses all the available data and clusters patients into specific groups and identifies those who received consistently effective treatment. Another goal of this is to create a disease model that can be used to simulate ventilation patterns and can be used to allow for interactive training of fresh respiratory therapists specifically for COVID-19. Such a model would continue to have value beyond the pandemic and could bring valuable insight into the physiology of the lung. We are looking for a true expert who is aware of the current consensus on the fundamental physics and biological processes behind the disease but is also capable to expand his horizon to what this kind of analysis of data might bring. That person would be working closely with an AI expert to identify suitable approaches to the opportunities described above.

  • From California? Amplify your impact by participating in a Columbia University Voter Turnout Study!

    This is a virtual opportunity
    Wed, October 14, 2020 - Tue, November 3, 2020

What is Turnout Nation? Turnout Nation is a 501-c3 initiative of the Social Good Fund. Turnout Nation volunteers, called Captains, make a list of 10 people they know that they will pledge to help vote in local and federal elections. We empower Captains with up to date state specific resources so they can help people in their own social networks vote! The study: We're conducting a randomized control trial with Dr. Donald P Green of Columbia University to measure the effectiveness of the "Captain method" of getting 10 friends to vote. All you have to do is schedule a brief phone call with us and follow up with a few friends until election day to make sure they vote. Why it matters? Almost 45% of people in the US didn't vote in the 2016 presidential election and, on average, only 17% of people vote in local elections. Millions of dollars are spent on campaigns and voter suppression and misinformation are commonplace. Having the help of a trusted friend or community member when trying to vote can make all the difference. Turnout Nation hopes to help create a stronger voting culture in all states, for every election. By joining the trial, you're helping to bring more attention to grassroots friend-to-friend mobilization as a way to get out the vote. Help us prove that empowering and compensating local organizers is key to encouraging civic engagement everywhere. Why California? California allows for same day registration and automatic mail in voting so it is easy to participate. Local elections are incredibly important. However, California is not a "battleground" state that typically decides presidential races and legislative majorities. Participating in a study is a way to potentially impact how campaigns and non-profits work to get-out-the-vote across the country for federal elections. You can make an impact beyond your vote by helping us show that local non-partisan organizing is more effective, transparent, and respectful than social media smear campaigns or partisan text and phone banking!

    This is a virtual opportunity
    Mon, October 12, 2020 - Sun, January 10, 2021

This is the way Colucci's Animal Trappers & Savers, inc. dba C.A.T.S., inc. is helping our community, yours & mine. I believe I've come up with the most ingenious idea ever. Since handing out animal food FREE of charge to the UNDERSERVED in our community is a huge part of what C.A.T.S., inc. does and the Social Distancing Guidelines would have been a huge part in shutting us down, I came up with the idea of pet store gift cards. That made the difference between staying IN business or going OUT of business. However, to stay within the social distancing guidelines we can no longer accept animal food donations at this time, but can accept & need from you, your Volunteer Match members, their co-workers, friends & family is to double down on their monetary donations to C.A.T.S, inc., please do not wait for the next world wide crisis to donate $10.00 or, donate another amount. Your sustaining donation of $10.00 a month or computer volunteering 10 Hours a month is just another way you can "Pay it Forward" to our community. Please mail C.A.T.S., inc. pet store gift cards or any gift cards you have lying around tor us to re-mail to those people that don't want to risk leaving their homes. PayPal @ catsinc@cox.net, or Check/Money Order, etc. to C.A.T.S., inc. P.O. Box 12966 Las Vegas, NV 89112 Also see Face Book: Henry Colucci for quick donation button Best of luck to us all!!! This is a virtual opportunity
    Sun, September 20, 2020 - Mon, November 9, 2020

Many Americans are concerned about the integrity of our upcoming election. In addition to the important preventative measures being taken by other groups, this small team will collaborate with experts and other election security groups to prepare for a possible post-election audit. Currently, we are working on ways to communicate this simple and direct method to media and the public. We need to help people realize that it _is_ possible to audit the election results, and that anyone can understand the simple methods to do so. Our biggest volunteer need currently is for graphics and visuals to help convey the ideas. However, specific experience is not required - we can use anyone who is willing to commit some time to the effort. Questions welcome. (We are currently close communication with DemocracyCounts, Scrutineers, ProtectOurVotes and other groups and hope to work in a way that complements with their efforts)

  • Volunteer Tax Preparer

    This is a virtual opportunity
    Mon, January 25, 2021 - Thu, April 15, 2021

Volunteer Online - From Home! United Way's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program (VITA) provides FREE tax preparation to individuals and families earning up to $56,000 annually. VITA taxpayers receive the maximum refund possible without paying hundreds of dollars in preparation costs. The VITA program helps taxpayers access all of the tax credits for which they are eligible - including the Earned Income Tax Credit which has been recognized as the single most powerful tool to lift children out of poverty. For many of our taxpayers, their tax refund is the biggest check they'll receive all year. Claiming these credits puts taxpayers on the path to paying off debt, securing better housing, obtaining dependable transportation, or pursuing higher education. Their spending generates millions of dollars in economic impact for the community. Last year, our VITA volunteers served more than 3,000 households and brought more than $4.2 million dollars back to our community. You can be a part of the team that makes this possible! Don’t know that much about taxes? No experience is necessary to become an effective, impactful VITA volunteer. We provide all necessary training in the month of January. The software that we use makes the tax preparation experience a matter of a little know-how and careful data entry. How much training will I need? First-year tax preparers go through approximately 24 hours of training in the month of January before tax preparation begins in February. Once you are placed on a team, you will have volunteer mentors around you to ask questions, as well as other tax preparation volunteers. Every return you prepare will be reviewed by a fellow volunteer to provide a quality check before filing. Join Today: Register to attend an upcoming orientation www.unitedwaytucson.org/joinvita
