To offer mutual support and empowerment to persons and their families affected by serious mental illness through education, advocacy, and emotional support.

Description

National Alliance on Mental Illness is America's largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to improving the lives of individuals and familes affected by mental illness such as major depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, and borderline personality disorder.

Founded in 1979, NAMI has become the nation's voice on mental illness, a national organization including NAMI organizations in every state and in over 1200 local communities across the country who join together to meet the NAMI mission.

NAMI provides free educational programs and support groups for individuals living with mental illness and families/friends. Additionally, NAMI organizes educational events in schools and the local community.

I have gained information that was helpful for me to understand information about mental illness. The staff is kind and understanding about my needs. Also, the support groups and classes are run by excellent teachers. I give them the reason why I am doing better today along with my therapies and medication.

Nami in chardon has been very helpful to me and my family.they have provided us with much needed information and support.my daughter attends support group which has been very helpful.i have also gone to a couple speakers,which has been helpful.information and support is so important,and the staff is great.
