Mission Statement

The mission of the Walpole Footlighters is to increase public interest and appreciation in the dramatic arts, especially by promoting community amateur participation in such arts and to promote other literary and educational activities relating to such arts.

Description

The Walpole Footlighters is an all-volunteer community theater founded in 1924 by Walpole residents, and received 501(c)(3) status in 1958. The Footlighters produce a full season of three plays and musicals and provide training in technical aspects of theater production. Attendance each year is between 4700 and 5200 patrons, about half of whom are subscribers. The Footlighters are fortunate to own their own space, a converted machine shop on Scout Road in East Walpole donated in 1957 by the Bird family. The seating was upgraded in 2001 to meet current codes, including wheelchair spaces. Total seating per performance is 231. Patrons and company members come from all the surrounding towns. Paid membership is currently 95.
