The Appropriate Technology Collaborative nonprofit organization that creates programs and technologies for meeting the basic needs of the world's poor. ATC works in collaboration with our clients to create technologies that are culturally sensitive, environmentally responsible and locally repairable in order to improve the quality of life, enhance safety, and reduce adverse impacts on their environment." Mayan Power and Light is a program of ATC that teaches Mayan women about electricity, circuits and solar power, and then provides business incubation services for women to start solar micro-enterprises. Mayan Power and Light is recognized as a global top 100 sustainable enterprise by Sustainia working in collaboration with the United Nations Compact for Sustainable Development. ATC fosters international collaborative teams of students, professionals and clients in the developing world to achieve breakthrough sustainable technologies.

Description

ATC works with volunteers, students and professionals to create programs and new sustainable, energy efficient technologies that can form the basis of small businesses.

The ATC Mayan Power and Light program teaches rural Mayan women about electricity, circuits and solar power, and then helps them start solar businesses. Mayan Power and Light has been recognised as a global top 100 sustainable enterprise by Sustainia, working in collaboration with the United Nations Compact for Sustainable Development. We programs and techniologies in Latin America to prove they will benefit people in the countries where they are to be used.

ATC also tests systems of solar panels and related hardware to see where solar power systems can provide the greatest opportunity for the least cost.
