Mission Statement

Downtown Springfield, Inc., a volunteer-driven, not-for-profit organization formed in 1993, works to preserve, promote and enhance Springfield's historic central business district. Its mission is to help make downtown Springfield an ideal place to shop, work, visit, invest, and live.

Description

The Capital City Bicentennial Celebration is being expanded from the annual Taste of Downtown celebration so that the city can honor the 200th birthday of our most famous resident, President Abraham Lincoln. The event will encompass a 12 block area and is a combination of DSI's Taste of Downtown, the Springfield Jaycees Capital City Celebration, and the Secretary of State's Ice Cream Social.

This year's celebration will be held on July 3 & 4, 2009. The event will begin at 5PM till midnight on Friday, July 3 and from Noon until midnight on Saturday, July 4.
