Mission Statement

The 13th Annual Mayor's Back to School Fair is a family-friendly event providing opportunities to increase awareness and availability of education, health and social services for parents and children through informative activities, entertainment and helps prepare economically-disadvantaged children go back to school through services provided by community agencies that specialize in helping children.

Description

The fair will include musical entertainment and childrens activities including face painting, crafts, games and interactive demonstrations and booths, school supplies will be donated to nearly 20,000 school aged children, students will receive immunization information and administration, free health, dental and vision screenings, and free haircuts. DSID will be on hand to provide information on district services such as magnet schools, scholarship & alternative programs, psychological and social services, child abuse and domestic violence, and family literacy. Also, community resource booths will feature information on topics such as crime prevention, fire safety, underage drinking, parenting, health and nutrition.
