Mission Statement
The mission of the Evanston Commission on Aging's Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program is to protect and promote the rights and quality of life for people who reside in long-term care facilities.
Description
The Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program is one component of the Evanston Commission on Aging. The Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program provides regular visits to nursing homes to educate residents, their families and facility staff about resident rights, and advocates with facility staff on behalf of facility residents and their families. The Evanston Commission on Aging also sponsors the Handiman Program, a program which provides free handiman assistance to low-income seniors who are home owners, sponsors public seminars and provides information about community resources that are available to older persons and their families. The Commission has developed additional programs by partnering with community agencies based on the needs of the community's senior citizens.
