MAIN GALLERY The Downriver Council for the Arts’ Gallery Committee volunteers possess a love and appreciation of art, a flexible attitude, and a winning personality, all of which increases the success of our exhibit space. The Gallery Committee is open to anyone interested in promoting the arts by their active participation. The purpose of the DCA Gallery Committee is to promote appreciation and participation of the visual arts by exposing the community to a variety of artistic exhibits. This is accomplished through various forms of programming including exhibits, art classes, and workshops intended to illuminate new perspectives. Inspiring and providing the community audience with pertinent visual art interests is a main goal of the Gallery Committee. Time commitments (you don't need to be available for every single event): Committee members meet monthly for approximately an hour, typically the second Thursday at 6:00 p.m. in the gallery, to deliberate and vote on items relating to the operation and use of the gallery space, increase exposure as a strong element within the community, and provide a well-balanced visual arts program for the community. You can also join us online if you are unable to make the meeting in-person. These are most helpful to attend so you are up-to-date on info. The committee is primarily responsible for the hanging and placing of our exhibits - those are scheduled on Wednesdays at 11 a.m. and happen 1-2 times a month. Dates vary to coincide with exhibits and are agreed upon during our monthly meetings. Exhibit receptions happen 1-2 times a month, typically on a Thursday or Friday evening for 2-3 hours. We don’t expect you to attend every event, but would like the Gallery Committee to be represented with a few members each time to assist with set-up or clean-up of refreshments and greet/mingle with attendees. You will take a proactive role with future exhibit ideas and setting the schedule. You will receive a schedule for the current year of exhibits and dates. Reminders and notices are sent, but ultimately you are responsible for knowing the calendar. We communicate best via a Facebook Group. There are more opportunities with the DCA for committee members to participate in art exhibits or sell your work during events. Responsibilities include: Participate in monthly meetings Assist with hanging and taking down (rarely) exhibits Set-up, attend, and clean-up for receptions Greet guests and act as DCA advocates on opening nights and other events Recruit other gallery committee members Recruit artists and market participation in DCA exhibits and become members (drop off call for entries or flyers at locations, share on your social media) Establish, plan and partake in gallery fundraisers (if you choose to) Curate exhibitions and ideas (if you choose to) Collaborate on programming related to exhibits to provide more exposure for artists Other endeavors undertaken by the Gallery Committee Give adequate time and energy to the duties required You must be able to communicate via email and our private Facebook Group Relevant, but not necessary - we would love if you could help with social media or video! SATELLITE GALLERIES The Downriver Council for the Arts is committed to connecting art to the community, and another way we accomplish this is by providing off-site exhibit space in unexpected places. Curating in non-traditional spaces provides new opportunities for people to engage with work outside of the context of our gallery, opening this creative engagement to a broader audience. The DCA works with venues ranging from hospitals, restaurants, churches, municipalities and more in several different communities to offer exhibition opportunities to local artists. Typically these exhibits run for a period of 2 -3 months and are installed by members of the DCA Gallery Committee with assistance from the artist(s) and volunteers. We currently have restricted public arts center hours in relation to covid-19 conditions. Health and safety are a priority, masks and social distancing are practiced. Monthly meetings can be attended in person or via zoom. Exhibit hangings and receptions are attended in person.

We are looking for a volunteer videographer to work with us on video projects. We are open to your vision and we also have a couple of ideas in mind. We definitely are an incubator for creativity, so we want you to get the most out of this opportunity. You can shoot in the arts center building or on location. We are imagining short segments, but if you have other projects in mind, we’re open to that as well! You’ll be working closely with the Executive Director, other artist members and perhaps board members. Shoots can be scheduled around your availability and we can bulk shoot if that is helpful. Also, we can shoot b-roll footage and make that available to you if you’d prefer (although we’d be using our phones and tablets). Here are a few ideas we have. We’d like to continue doing an artist video series that was started during pandemic shut down. We could use promo videos for our non-profit arts organization. Promo videos for upcoming art exhibits would be neat. TikTok campaign. Special events like art exhibit openings and concerts. Partnerships with other arts and cultural groups, like poetry. We can offer you space to shoot if you’d like for your own projects while you are helping us. We are in a 100+ year old building with many odd and spooky rooms. You would also be credited and linked to in video creds, on our website, and on social media (if you choose). This volunteer position or internship is focused on providing real-world training and an out-of-classroom educational experience. This is an unpaid volunteer position; however, it can also equate to an internship with exchanged hours worked for university credit. We would be happy to make arrangements to accommodate this. Commitment is up to you or can be determined by an internship. This position can be ongoing, but we would like your engagement for at least 2-3 months and we can be flexible around your schedule.

Working closely with the Executive Director and a small team of volunteers who help run our social media pages, you will gain experience utilizing social media to effectively communicate the mission of the Downriver Council for the Arts (DCA). We are a regional, non-profit arts organization with a physical arts center, off site satellite galleries, and an online presence. We are a resource for artists and the community in the Downriver region of Michigan. We put the address for this position, however it can be conducted off site and virtual. We have found the best way for us to manage our presence is by each communicator taking a topic. You are welcome to do more, it’s up to you and what you are comfortable with. We have a list of topics that need to be covered, but we are open to your creative vision as well. It’s not a necessity, but we would love to share information about you on our social channels - introduce yourself; why you’re here; your interest in the DCA; if you are going to school and what your goals are; and your work if you are an artist. We want this to be a valuable experience for you. Perhaps you want to interview people, do a commentary, or a review? We are open to your ideas! A DCA Social Media Communicator will: - Plan and execute social media content, track impact, engage with users. - Market the DCA and help identify new marketing opportunities. - Have some experience or will learn social media beyond the basics-scheduling posts, Facebook ads, growing follower base, posting in groups, etc. - Utilize our primary apps: Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, YouTube. Hoping to add Tiktok, etc. - Willingness to get familiar with Loomly. We use this to schedule and reach multiple platforms. - Have your own computer/laptop, mobile device, and account on the above mentioned apps. - Brainstorm with the team on fun topics we can cover to engage users. - Possibly have some design experience or able to use apps like Canva or Spark Post, etc. - Be able to communicate via Facebook Messenger and occasional online meetings and/or in person meetings at the arts center. - Be a self-starter, work independently and be able to take initiative. You may need to motivate other volunteers (and artists) from time to time! Helps if you have these qualifications: - Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills. - Strong interest in arts and culture and follow local and national news and trends. - Be a team player, organized, and responsible. The ideal applicant will be genuinely passionate about the DCA’s mission and excited to work with a small arts nonprofit as it expands and grows! We follow mandated covid restrictions. Health and safety are a priority, so this position can be conducted on or offsite. We would, however, like to meet you, so this can be in person or via zoom. This is an unpaid volunteer position; however, it can also equate to an internship with exchanged hours worked for college class credit. You are also able to earn credit hours from a non-profit organization for your group and/or place of employment (honor societies, scouts, etc.). We would be happy to make arrangements to accommodate this. Weekly commitment hours are up to you (typically at least a few) or can be determined by an internship. This position can be ongoing, but we would like your engagement for at least 2-3 months. This volunteer position or internship is focused on providing real-world training and an out-of-classroom educational experience to those interested in pursuing a career in communications, public relations, journalism, arts administration, art history, studio arts, media arts, fine arts, humanities, entertainment.

We are a non-profit regional arts organization located Downriver. Our home is a 20,000 sq ft arts center where we hold art exhibits, classes and workshops, events, concerts, dances and whatever else artists can dream up! The Downriver Council for the Arts (DCA) presents a well-rounded artistic experience that encompasses many different fine art forms, both visual and performance-based, for adults and children. Our aim is to engage the community in arts and cultural experiences. In late January we will begin a monthly session of drawing and painting from a live model. We are looking for models to build into our schedule. If you have experience modeling for artists, we would love to hear from you. Experience isn’t necessary, but if you have never sat for a session before, we would need you come to a session and watch how its done. Details: Once a month, mostly on the last Thursday of the month. The Main Gallery will be open from 5:30-8pm. We are asking the model to be ready by 6pm, but could be ready sooner if they wish. The model will do: 4 five-minute poses for a quick warm up. 10 minute break. 60 minute pose (with breaks every 20-30 minutes, depending on your preference). Model is paid $50 per session. This is a family friendly atmosphere, so please keep this in mind when selecting clothing. You can wear anything from street clothes to period costumes. Please, just nothing profane or inappropriate as we’ll have children in the building. This is an paid gig; however, it can also equate to an internship with exchanged hours worked for college class credit. You are also able to earn credit hours from a non-profit organization for your group and/or place of employment (honor societies, scouts, etc.). We would be happy to make arrangements to accommodate this. Please email dc4arts@downriverarts.org with your inquiry and a brief introduction.
