Mission Statement

To reach out and offer support to people of all ages and backgrounds during times of crisis, to work to prevent the suicide of those who are actively suicidal, and to offer hope and caring in times of hopelessness.

Description

Crisis Support Services of Alameda County is a 24-hour telephone counseling service responding to over 50,000 calls annually. Other programs include: a grief counseling project, a senior program, a suicide attempters group, and a community education program.

Its a supportive environment with lots of training. After the weekend trainings, volunteer trainees get one on one training answering the crisis lines. This requires a 4 month training and a one year commitment to the agency. Great to get hours if needed for internships, want to gain more experience before applying to social work or counseling graduate programs and/or want to support the community. I am glad I applied to this volunteer program.
