WCI believes that facilitating the ascendance of women as societal change makers. To achieve that power, every woman, particularly those living in poverty, must have full access to every resource that has been claimed and dominated by men. Women’s Centers deliver that access in safe, uniquely supportive environments, the 'base camps ' for rebuilding our world around women’s priorities.
Over the past ten years, Executive Director Susan Burgess-Lent has opened four Women's Centers: two in North Darfur, Sudan; Baraka Center in Nairobi, Kenya, and Oakland Women's Center in California, USA. Two of those centers continue their growth. WCI is working to develop a global network of Women's Centers.
