Mission Statement
Maxwell Street Legal Clinic, a program of Kentucky Equal Justice Center, is a non-profit legal services organization dedicated to serving and promoting Kentucky's most vulnerable low-income immigrant population and their families.
Description
MSLC, established in 1999, provides free or low cost advice and assistance with immigration law to low-income individuals and their family members who could not be served by existing legal services. MSLC assists asylees and refugees fleeing persecution in their home countries, immigrant victims of domestic violence, human trafficking and other crimes, as well as Lawful Permanent Residents and U.S. citizens seeking reunification with immigrant family members, and provides assistance in many other types of cases.
MSLC also houses the Citizenship Project which was established in 2005 by a grant from the American Dream Fund. The Citizenship Project's sole focus is assisting eligible Lawful Permanent Residents who wish to become naturalized U.S. citizens. Project services include legal pre-screening, application processing, citizenship workshops, ESL tutoring, Civics classes, Civics tutoring, and post-citizenship classes.
