Mission Statement
Veteran Anglers of New York, Inc. initiated and associated with Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing, serves military personnel who have been wounded, injured, or disabled to aid their emotional and physical recovery by introducing or rebuilding the skills of fly fishing and fly tying and by using and enjoying the benefits of these skills on fishing outings and as lifelong recreation.
While initially based on Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing, Inc., VANY, in association with Federation of Fly Fishers, became an independent organization to better serve the diverse group of both active military personnel and veterans throughout the greater metropolitan area.
The program provides basic fly fishing, fly casting and fly tying classes and clinics ranging from beginners to those with prior fly fishing experience who are adapting their skills to their new abilities. All activities and services are provided to the participants at no cost. Fly fishing and fly tying equipment and materials are provided to the participants, including equipment necessary to accommodate special needs.
The project's educational activities are designed to rekindle and enhance the participants' appreciation and enthusiasm for fishing outings while also encouraging socialization, adjustment, and community reentry.
The fishing trips are provided at no cost to the participants. VANY relies on fishing organizations and clubs to sponsor events. The volunteer staff and instructors include professional educators and fishing guides as well as experienced anglers, all of whom donate their time and knowledge to support the participants.
All VANY activities are dependent on tax deductible financial donations under the provisions of Section 501c(3) of the IRS Code. The organization is incorporated in the state of New York.
VANY strives to effectively serve the deserving past and present members of our armed forces who have made great sacrifices in the service of our Nation.
