Great Oak High School Mission Statement : Within a dynamic, relevant and nurturing educational climate, The Great Oak community encourages all students to climb the "branches of excellence" to realize their potential. AVID Mission Statement: AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. The mission of AVID is to ensure that all students, especially middle-performing students, will: succeed in the most rigorous curriculum; enter the mainstream activities of the school; increase their enrollment in four-year colleges, and become educated, responsible participants and leaders in a democratic society.

Description

Great Oak High School's Advancement via Individual Determination (AVID) program needs your help. Great Oak is Temecula's newest high school and AVID is a 4-year college-preparation program. We are very proud of the GOHS AVID program's accomplishments. 100% of GOHS AVID Students have attended college right after high school. Past GOHS AVID students were accepted to: Wellesley College, University of Redlands, University of New Mexico, UC Santa Barbara, UC Riverside, UC Irvine, Cal Poly Pomona, Biola University, Avila University, San Jose State, San Diego State, Mount St. Mary's, Humboldt State, CSU Stanislaus, CSU San Marcos, CSU San Bernardino, CSU Northridge, CSU Monterey Bay, CSU Los Angeles, CSU Fullerton, CSU East Bay, CSU Dominguez Hills and Chico State. AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is an elective class offered to students who would like to prepare for four-year universities. The curriculum features writing, inquiry, collaboration, reading, note-taking, study skills, and college/career/motivational activities. The AVID class is a four-year elective. College students and volunteers are in the classroom as tutors two-three times a week and field trips are taken to universities. Students must commit to taking notes in subject-area classes on a daily basis.
