Mission Statement
The Long-Term Care Omubdsman Program protects and promotes the rights of residents living in licensed long-term care facilities such as nursing homes, assisted living facilities and adult family homes. The program also strives to assist in empowering residents to become self-advocates.
Description
Certified long-term care ombudsmen are assigned to long-term care facilities throughout Grays Harbor and Pacific Counties. The ombudsmen are thoroughly trained (36 hours of certification training, as well as monthly in-service meetings) to be resident advocates in their assigned facilities. They help resolve disputes, investigate complaints, provide consultations, referrals, and educate about resident rights. Ombudsmen must commit to volunteering an average of 20 hours per month. Volunteers are paid mileage to/from their facilities and required program meetings.
