Mission Statement

House of Service empowers impoverished single mother families to become proactive members of society. Guided by the teaching of Christ Jesus to care for widows and orphans and guided by his holy spirit, House of service accomplishes its goal through ministries that: 1) Build single mothers' life skills; 2) Support children's health and academic success; and 3) Promotes social capital within the neighborhoods in which single mothers reside. The tripartite approach is purposeful. Single mothers frequently lack basic life skills such as financial management and parenting that contribute to countless daily problems that keep mothers in crisis mode. Ministries that build single mothers' life skills will help single mothers move out of crisis mode and into a place that allows them to look to the future rather than the past. Children in impoverished single mother families confront multiple threats to their health, well-being, and academic success. Ministries that support children provide a source of resilience that will help children flourish, despite their circumstances. Finally, impoverished neighborhoods present many traps and snares that can hold single mothers and their children back; however, by working together women and children can more safely navigate these traps and snares. Ministries that promote social capital within the neighborhoods occupied by single mother families build the capacity for individuals to help themselves by helping each other.
