Mare Nostrum Elements is a performance company with interest in dance, theater, music and experimental movement theater. We have produced experimental theater at La MaMa ETC, NYU and various other venues in NYC and Italy. We have also produced off Broadway with last years "The Crucible" which was received with critical acclaim. This year we have a plan to produce off Broadway again with S. N. Behrman's "Biography". Our plan for next year is to reconstruct a work by Anna Sokolow to commemorate her 100th birthday. We also offer workshops to the community with the intention to enrich a performer's ability to express themselves through their chosen art form. We feel that, in dance for example, too much attention is paid to the technical and visual aspects, leaving the performer unclear and inhibited to express the emotion or intention behind the movement. Our specially designed training, "The Wave Within" explores the meaning behind the technique, guiding each performer to express their own unique and personal experience. We feel it is this quality and dynamic of performance that keeps the audience engaged and anticipating the next moment.
