Description

The Irma L. Rangel Young Women’s Leadership School is a public magnet school for young women in grades six through twelve. It opened as the first public school for girls in Texas in 2004 as a unique public-private partnership between the Dallas Independent School District and the Foundation for the Education of Young Women. Admission is highly selective, based on Texas state standardized test scores, academic performance and teacher recommendation. Entry points are generally in the 6th and 9th grades. Irma Lerma Rangel was the first Mexican-American woman elected to the Texas House of Representatives. Her spirit inspires the school’s core values, which are brought to life through experiential and service learning, summer enrichment camps, advisory and mentoring programs and a college preparatory curriculum.
