Mission Statement

Our mission is to empower low-income Bremerton High School graduates with GPAs of 2.5 and above by greatly subsidizing their expenses at an accredited trade school or 2 or 4-year college or university. The current amount of the scholarship is $14,000, usually payable at $3500/year for four years. This is NOT an academic scholarship; our winners are chosen for their motivation, character and desire to help others by Paying It Forward, as in the book or movie.

Description

We are an organization formed in 2007 with the mission of enabling motivated BHS graduates from low income families to attend college and become the first college graduates in their families. We currently provide THREE $14,000 scholarships payable in 4 yearly amounts of $3,500 each. We provide the first installment of $3,500 gratis, but then expect the recipient to Pay It Forward prior to receiving each of the other 3 installments by helping with our annual June fundraiser, a 5K race called BRIDGE 2 BRIDGE.

Our scholarship fills a niche that heretofore had been ignored--those worthy students in the 2.5 - 3.5 GPA group who want to obtain professional degrees but have neither the money nor the highest GPAs (for more scholarships) to do so. Not everyone has the same opportunities in high school to obtain perfect grades. We understand this and see family or work commitments as character builders that still make this group of students worthy of scholarship money. Indeed, they often desire to go to college more than some of their 4.0 GPA fellow students.
