Mission Statement

Rochester Youth Year is an AmeriCorps VISTA-sponsored social justice fellowship that strives to eradicate poverty for Rochester youth and families, strengthen communities, and promote community-centered leadership. VISTAs perform indirect, capacity-building service for their host organizations to create, expand, and sustain asset-based, anti-poverty initiatives.

Description

Rochester Youth Year places qualified candidates with recent Bachelor’s degrees at community-based organizations full-time, to create, innovate, or expand asset-based, antipoverty initiatives through indirect service, in order to address the many challenges that Rochester families face. Indirect service tasks may include but are not limited to grant writing, resource development, volunteer recruitment, program assessment and evaluation, systems building and more. The fellowship is 1 year long, open to all majors, and guarantees hands-on experience for each VISTA.

Sounds. great ,!!! I wish to volunteer for army corps and veteran families ,but the problem is I am on visitor visa & have 6 months of allowances , I would be glad if they come up with something which has 3 month or 6 month as serving period .. No matter. If they don't give me any certificate or benefits all I want to get the feel , and experience community service in the United States
