A sustainable civil society association (NGO non-profit) is dedicated to support and empower the Mayan rural communities near Chichen Itza, Yucatan, Mexico within a Geo-Tourism sustainable vision that helps share and preserve the Maya cultural values and traditions. Our innovating volunteer sustainable programs help Maya young adults learn hospitality job-related skills that support their economical welfare, education, and family's future. Special attention is given to the Maya Children nutrition, health and education needs with the support of the Hacienda Chichen and our team of volunteers, teaching English, German, or French workshops, as well as other job skills helpful to the local young adults.
The Maya Foundation In Laakeech volunteer opportunities are very flexible and full of creative sustainable approaches, Volunteers may find in our website a list of frequent ask questions to help them envision the support they wish to contribute to our social work programs. Hacienda Chichen supports our social and green awareness ventures by providing free rooming to volunteers commiting to at least two weeks of their time to our workshops and programs.
Each volunteer is given the opportunity to be creative and have a personal workshop program to impart. Each volunteer select the job related area that wishes to share with the community young adults and on-the-job workers, be it teachin languages, computer skills or any hospitality related skill such as restaurant management skills, environmental practices, reforestation, chef gourmet workshops, etc.
Volunteers enjoying working with children, can create their own nutrition program teaching young mothers and children the value of food hygine and low budget recipes filled with nutrition value. Other programs engage children in fun green awareness practices to help them gain understanding of the environment and the care needed to protect, water, flora and fauna.
Selected volunteers must be independant, responsible adults that understand this social volunteer program is not an alternative summer camp but a wonderful way to share and experience an inter-relationship with Maya communities in Yucatan. Transportation and food is not provided, free rooming and a 30% discount in all meals at Hacienda Chichen is donated to support our volunteers.
