Mission Statement

Elizabeth Peabody House (EPH), a Settlement House and Community Center located in Somerville Ma, provides a broad array of educational, social and recreational services to address the essential and changing needs of a diverse population of low-income families in the City of Somerville and surrounding communities. EPH's community-focused programs are designed to encourage children (ages 5-14) to make choices, grow, and develop their academic readiness skills in a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment.

Description

Elizabeth Peabody House fulfills its mission through being a true community-based organization that is attuned to and able to respond to the needs of the local community that we serve. The participants in our programs represent the demographics of the diverse community we serve; many of the families we serve are immigrants, 40% are low income and 38% are very low-income, 47% are black, 10% are another racial minority, 34% are Hispanic. Thus, we place emphasis in our youth-serving programs on serving a diverse population effectively. We are committed to, and effective in serving youth who may come to us with various challenges, as well as assets, that can result from their experience with issues around marginalization and poverty.
