Mission Statement

To operate a youth and young adult education, job-skills training and job-placement program that provides an avenue to reduce poverty, stimulate the economy and maintain the natural environment.

Description

Founded in 2000, HOC provides "work, earn and learn" training and wage opportunities to at-risk and disadvantaged youth and young adults in Central Oregon. HOC takes referrals from Juvenile Justice agencies, Department of Human Resources case managers and school counselors, who seek to engage at-risk youth in positive peer, learning and recreational environments.

HOC's "work, earn and learn" approach has proven to be an effective model for working with a challenging population. Six corpsmembers, under the supervision of a professional crew leader, work together on various community projects, earning wages, learning job skills, while attending class that prepares them for their GEDs/Diplomas or college. At-risk youth and young adults need guidance, structure and positive peer and adult affiliations in their lives. HOC programs provide for these needs, while instilling a strong work and community stewardship.
