Mission Statement

God, Kids and The Woods....connecting and growing. Providing opportunity for adults and children to connect with God's creation and each other in order to grow and become more loving and caring citizens of our communities.

Description

Camp Buckeye is located on 92 wooded acres and was purchased from the Boy Scouts of America in 1984, by the newly formed nonprofit Grass Roots Ministries, Inc. The facility is used for a retreat place for adults, families, churches, universities and provides summer camping experiences for children regardless of ability to pay the camp fees.

Camp Buckeye has collaborated with organizations such as Big Brothers Big Sisters to provide their youth an opportunity to spend a week in a family type atmosphere in a cabin with loving, caring staff. Life skills such as self-esteem, decision making, relationship building, conflict resolution, peer mentoring are taught and exemplified. The Back To Basics format helps youth to connect with a simplier, slower paced experience by caring for animals, milking goats, shearing sheep, gathering eggs, doing pottery, art, drama, outdoor education activities such as orienteering, pond study, recycling, bird study.
