Description

The US Coast Guard Auxiliary is the volunteer component of Team Coast Guard. Flotilla D1NR-02-08 is home ported in Portsmouth Harbor, covering all of New Hampshire and Southermost Maine.

Membership is open to any US citizens who are 17 years of age or above.

As volunteers, members commit as much or as little time as they are able, and can not be "called up" to involuntary duty or sent out of the area, unless they volunteer for a mission such as an environmental or natural disaster, and are trained in the mission needed there.

Members get as much from the Auxiliary as they put in. Opportunities to train for real missions which positively impact their communities are endless, and often the hardest part of being an Auxiliarist is to decide which programs to participate in. At the same time, opportunities are available for members who work non-traditional or varied schedules, since there is no minimum time commitment, and every program has it's own unique scheduling needs.

Auxiliarists come from all walks of life, all occupations, prior military service, retired civilian or military, high school and college students, working men and women. Membership is open to all regardless of age, race, ethnicity, gender or any other lablel.
