What may you ask is the Border Route Trail.
For those of you that may not know its background, the BRT is a 65 mile hiking trail in the northeastern tip of Minnesota that connects the Superior Hiking Trail on the east with the Kekekabic Trail on the west with the center 38 miles transversing the eastern section of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. It was designed and constructed by volunteer Rover trail crews between 1972 and 1980. It was intended that the BRT become the ultimate scenic trail in the Upper Midwest. With its multitude of panoramic vistas overlooking the lakes and rivers of the BWCAW and adjoining lands, it succeeds admirably. We guarantee that you won't be disappointed.
In 2005 the Rovers Trails Program was incorporated as the Border Route Trail Association, a 501(c)(3) sister organization of the Minnesota Rovers. As such, donations to the BRTA, including your trip costs, are tax deductible charitable contributions. Under an agreement with the U.S. Forest Service, the BRTA and Rovers continue to be jointly responsible for the maintenance of the Border Route. We ask for your assistance in keeping the BRT in a condition that reflects well on both Rovers and the BRTA. Without your individual help it is impossible to keep the trail in the excellent condition that it deserves.

Beginners are welcome on most trips.
We have two types of trips: Non-mechanized trips within the BWCAW using hand tools such as crosscut saws and nippers and Mechanized trips outside of the BWCAW using power brushcutters and chain saws. USFS certification required for crosscut and chain saw operation, OJT provided for brushcutter operation.
The trip cost includes transportation to and from the Twin Cities, lodging (cabin or tent), all food except for the trip up and back. The deposit is the same as the trip cost and is refundable if cancellation is made prior to one week before the trip date. Packing lists and trip details are available from the contact people.
