Mission Statement

OUR MISSION The ARC of Greater New Haven is a 501(c)3 private non-profit organization founded in 1952. The ARC will provide quality services to meet selected needs of individuals with intellectual disabilities in the greater New Haven region. The ARC is committed to supporting people to achieve their personal goals, to exercise their rights, to express their unique cultural identity, to experience respect and to lead a healthy and safe life. ARC programs will be provided in an environment that enriches lives and exemplifies the practice of treating others as we would like to be treated. The environment will be kind and caring. It will offer opportunities for individuals to learn new skills and to experience activities in the community. The environment will offer opportunities to experience the activities of the day which promote respectful human contact and social inclusion.

Description

The ARC of Greater New Haven has been around since the early 1950’s. The organization has provided advocacy and a variety of services since then. In the early 1990’s, the Board of Directors decided to focus specifically on providing day support services to individuals with significant intellectual disabilities. Since that time we have grown to provide daily person centered choice based services to over 100 individuals at locations in Milford, Hamden and North Haven.

The ARC of Greater New Haven works closely with individuals with intellectual disabilities and their families to develop relationships that enable us to work together with the Connecticut Department of Developmental Services to provide quality day support services. We want these individuals to have opportunities to make choices, be treated with respect and dignity and enjoy good relationships as they interact in the world.

Our Values and Vision

The core value that the ARC strives to uphold is to treat one another as we would like to be treated. We try to put a more human face on human services. This requires us to see each person as an individual and to try to respond to the needs, hopes and abilities of that individual.
We have worked to create a culture in which all people are accepted for who they are. We strive to present opportunities for interaction and inclusion. Every day challenges us to make a difference.
