The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.

Description

The Salvation Army is an integral part of the Christian Church, although distinctive in government and practice. The Army's doctrine follows the mainstream of Christian belief and its articles of faith emphasise God's saving purposes. Its objects are 'the advancement of the Christian religion... of education, the relief of poverty, and other charitable objects beneficial to society or the community of mankind as a whole.'*

The Salvation Army Louisville Area Command is the administrative hub for all The Salvation Army programs and services in Louisville, Kentucky.

The Salvation Army has been serving the needs of Louisville's less fortunate since 1883. Our current programs include the Center of Hope Homeless Shelter, Transitional Housing for Women and Children, Boys and Girls Clubs, and Family Stores. We also operate three corps (churches) in Louisville.
