Mission Statement

The mission of the Pioneers' Cemetery Association (PCA) is to research, preserve, and protect the history and physical remains of Arizona pioneers as exemplified in the early historic period cemeteries of the state.

Description

The Pioneers' Cemetery Assn. works closely with the Phoenix Parks Dept to make the historic cemeteries of Phoenix available to the public, hosting open house events, offering tours by appointment, answering queries. These historic cemeteries include those in Pioneer & Military Memorial Park in downtown Phoenix at 14th Ave/ Jefferson and Cementerio Lindo on south 15th Ave/ I-17 freeway. The PCA also holds workdays to assist the Parks Dept. with light maintenance and cleaning.

Our office is in the 1897 Smurthwaite House on the grounds of P&MMP, 1317 W Jefferson.

There is an annual Memorial Day Observance held at P&MMP on Memorial Day (May 25 at 0900 in 2009), free to the public.
