SHIBA (Senior Health Insurance Benefits Advisors) was initiated by the Idaho Department of Insurance in 1985 to enhance the lives of Idaho Medicare beneficiaries through health insurance education and advocacy. Staff and counselors can answer a wide variety of questions concerning Medicare, Medicare Supplement Insurance, Medicare Health Plans/Advantage plans, Long Term Care Insurance, Medicare Prescription Drug Plans, fraudulent practices, and scams aimed at Medicare beneficiaries. SHIBA is currently reaching out to providers, agencies, and individuals with education on who may qualify for 'Extra Help' with Prescription Drug Plan premiums and copays. We can also help patients with Medicare claims filing, billing education, problems, denials, and appeals. If we are unable to answer specific questions, we may be able to direct you to an agency that can help. SHIBA assists clients through staff and volunteer counselors located at various sponsoring organizations.
