Mission Statement

Project Access Northwest provides a workable solution to one of the most pressing health care problems facing low-income and uninsured people in our community -- access to specialty care services. This program builds on the safety net of primary care provided by the community health and public health clinics in King and Snohomish Counties. Through Project Access, low-income uninsured patients have access to needed specialty health care and donated ancillary, in- and out-patient hospital services.

Description

HOW PROJECT ACCESS NORTHWEST WORKS

Community-based care clinics provide primary care homes. These primary care physicians refer eligible patients, through Project Access, to specialists and hospitals who donate their services. Physician volunteer commitments and patient referrals are managed by a Project Access Case Manager. For tracking purposes only, services provided are recorded through standard insurance claim forms submitted by the specialty physicians and hospitals. Patients receive medications through existing community health clinics.

DIRECT OUTCOMES Strengthens the charity care already provided by physicians and healthcare providers. Improves the health of the low-income uninsured in their communities. Reduces inappropriate Emergency Room utilization and saves overall hospital charity costs. Minimizes the cost of per-patient charity care currently incurred by communities.
