Mission Statement

Description

The Beaumont Heritage Society owns and operates the John Jay French Museum and operates the Chambers House Museum.

The John Jay French Museum is one of the oldest standing houses in Beaumont, having been built in 1845. It is also one of the first two-story, painted houses in Beaumont. The John Jay French house demonstrates the daily life of a prosperous Texas frontiersman and his family from 1845-1865.

The Chambers House Museum was built in 1906. In 1914, C. Homer Chambers and Edith Fuller Chambers purchased the home and moved in with their two daughters; Ruth, who was 12, and Florence, who was 2. The home was occupied by family members until the death of the youngest daughter, Florence, in 2004. Restored to interpret the years between 1920 and 1945, the collection includes all of the original family furniture and artifacts.
