The City Attorney's office writes every municipal law, advises the Mayor, City Council and all City departments and commissions, defends the City in litigation, brings forth lawsuits on behalf of the people and prosecuted misdemeanor crimes such as domestic violence, drunk driving and vandalism. This office strives every day to make Los Angeles a better and safer place to live, work, raise a family and visit.

Description

The Family Violence Prosecution Unit within the Office of the Los Angeles City Attorney handles a variety of cases involving family members and intimate partners.

For any crime victim, navigating the legal process can be intimidating. In a domestic violence case, the process usually feels even more overwhelming because of the close relationship between the Victim and the defendant, and the complicated nature of the impact of abuse. The DV Court Support Program ensures that a person does not have to go through this process alone. Trained volunteers offer victim support in the courtroom and beyond by providing information, resources, and referrals.
