Mission Statement

A Just Harvest’s mission is to fight poverty and hunger in the Rogers Park and greater Chicago community by providing nutritious meals daily while cultivating community and economic development and organizing across racial, cultural and socioeconomic lines in order to create a more just society.

Description

A Just Harvest runs the longest standing, independently funded Community Kitchen in Chicagoland. Open since 1983, including 9,300 nights consecutive since 1990, A Just Harvest is supported by a network of 40 - 60 faith congregations.

In addition to our Community Kitchen, we are a growing force in organizing and economic empowerment for those on the margins. We were a coalition partner in the successful adoption of the Municipal Depository Ordinance, which requires banks in Chicago to demonstrate investment across the city. We are also a key partner in efforts to reform the criminal justice system, including ending monetary bail and curtailing the use of solitary confinement.
