Mission Statement

The mission of Lifting Spirits is a simple one, to share the joy and love with elderly individuals in area nursing homes, Assisted Living and the VA Hospitals in the Pell City & Birmingham metro area. We hope we can help to motivate others to reach out in new areas and join our mission. These individuals are often forgotten during this time of year or have no other family to spend the holiday season with. So our goal is compassion in action for an incredible group of people who are seeking to be loved during the holiday season but we also reach out all during the year,

Description

We are a small group of people, we basically started by some of my Facebook friends joining in on something I LOVE to do most, which is visiting the elders at many facilities. We visit and show a little love during the holidays to many lonely seniors. Some have no family & friends left and sadly, some are even left behind. This is where we try to help, we do many things through facebook to help us raise money to bring them some gifts during our visits, we have a yard sale page, An auction page and get a few things to raffle off ocssionally. We are always in need of volunteers that would love to visit with the seniors, there are many things they enjoy, like getting their nails done, playing bingo or other games, reading stories, or just sitting and talking. Even though Christmas will always be our main focus, we will always remember them on all the other holidays too.

We work all through the year on finding ways to get donations and raise money so we can continue to grow and reach as many elders as we can. Christmas 2015 we were able to visit and gift over 750 seniors in Pell City, Trussville, Springville areas. We could use people to help us in our mission by helping get donations, getting bags ready, visiting, etc.

This organization is filled with loving caring people who love to help our elders living in nursing homes. Watching them interact with the elders there was warm, heartfelt and very touching. They took in many goodie bags and stuffed animals and you would of thought some just received a new house. I know there are many organizations out there, and many of them are wonderful but this one is all the above and is needed in every state. Most people do not realize how many elders we have in nursing homes that have no one but the staff to check on them. Not only is it fun to go visiting, we also make many new friends on the way. I think everyone should be willing to donate some time or at least a dollar donation to help reach new seniors. Very worthy org
