Mission Statement

To build community and cultivate opportunities for Kern County residents, by connecting people, ideas, information, and technology.

Public libraries in California seek to engage the talents, skills and commitment of volunteers to serve the communities' information and literacy needs. Libraries offer a variety of skilled volunteer opportunities to make a meaningful contribution to library programs, operations, fundraising events and other community engagement functions. Skilled volunteers have opportunities to lead projects, work with teams of staff and volunteers, learn new skills, and have fun.

It is a great opportunity to interact with people, learn new things, and help someone else. With people constantly being on their devices, volunteering can be a great way to be out there more.

There wasn't anything to do. Just sit and wait for someone to come up to your desk, and I was told that that didn't happen very often. I knew it wasn't for me because I would get very bored and antsy. But others find it to be okay.
