Mission Statement

The mission of the Society is to educate, inspire, connect and involve our community and visitors as stewards of island history.

Description

The Orcas Island Historical Society began in the 1940's as a small group of individuals dedicated to protecting and preserving the islands history. The organizations first museum was artifacts displayed on the front porch of a pioneer family's home. Between 1950 and 1960, various island families donated to the Society six original homestead cabins that were built on Orcas between the 1870's and 1890's. The cabins were joined together and today comprise a display of artifacts from the past. In 2011, thanks to the generosity of Richard Schneider and Bud McBride, Crow Valley School came under the stewardship of the Society. The Societies primary role is to raise funds to support bothe the Pioneer Museum and Crow Valley School.
